Key Elements - Understanding Performance and Opportunities
This evaluates the level of understanding of current energy performance and the opportunities available from improving practice. Effective organisations need a base-line measure of existing energy performance.

This is essential to:

  • Understand the importance of energy costs in operations.
  • The impact on the organisation’s competitive position.

It is also necessary information to:

  • Prioritize actions.
  • Establish basis for comparison.

Initial estimates of the scale of savings opportunities may come from benchmarking against other similar operations and/or through detailed technical evaluation of processes and quantification of identified savings projects.

This element also examines the business risks associated with energy use, particularly with regard to the environmental impacts such as greenhouse gas emissions, direct air pollution and trade waste temperature.
